Thoughts on a Weekend with the D3400

Just time for a quick update today. Had a blast this weekend taking fotos for a family baby shower. It was my first opportunity to really give my brand new Nikon D3400 a spin (yes, I broke down and bought one). It's a little annoying not having a dedicated ISO button, so I mostly used auto ISO. The results were OK, especially since Nikon's JPEG processing is pretty good, but next time I'm going to be more careful about selecting my ISO manually. I'm also impressed by what the 18-55mm kit lens can do. F3.5 isn't really fast enough for my taste, but it's a good general purpose lens, especially in good lighting. I'll probably bring it along when shooting events, but stick with a fast prime lens for most personal shooting. Below, a few samples from the shower. These were processed in camera with no re-touching or filter effects.

For once, she smiled.

The girls were fascinated by the goats.

My lovely girlfriend did not go more than five minutes
without a baby in her arms. I'm in trouble.

I guess I got in on the action, too. Notice that there is some
noise from the high auto ISO. Aggressive noise reduction on
the better-lit parts was fine this time, but I hope to do better.

Cute shot of primas showing some love.
